Dinner at a local restaurant, some flowers, and a box of chocolates, is this your Valentine’s Day plan? Instead of fighting for a reservation at the same boring restaurant again this year, plan a romantic Valentine Getaway.

Living in Florida, my husband, Dan, and I make a lot of road trips for romantic weekends. Last year I highlighted these in Romantic Getaways in Florida. We were lucky to escape for more romantic getaways in U.S., 2021, in Florida, of course. I will be adding those to my romantic getaways post shortly. However, since we travel mostly in Florida, I thought it would be great to find the best places for Valentine’s Day weekend 2022. So I sought the expertise from some of the best travel writers. Whether you are looking for day trips, weekend getaways, or longer trip ideas, you will definitely find inspiration for planning your own Valentine’s Day weekend.

Make sure to take advantage of these tips on preventing weight gain and sluggishness while on vacation. You don’t want your romantic time ruined because of tummy troubles.

Valentine Getaway to Cyprus

Cyprus

Visit a place where Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite was born. Cyprus is definitely one of the most romantic islands in Europe. Some people believe that your wishes come true when you kiss your partner in the middle of Love Bridge in Cyprus. This rock formation attracts many visitors every year.

Despite February being the coldest month of the year in Cyprus, the weather is still nice for exploring the island. Due to the low season, you can find cheaper accommodations and admire beautiful places with fewer tourists. Moreover, February is a great time to attend colourful events such as Cyprus Limassol Carnival.

There are many amazing things to do in Cyprus. Couples will love Sea Caves, Aphrodite Beach or Akamas Peninsula National Park. Watching the sunset next to Edro III Shipwreck is another great option for spending Valentine’s Day. Amazing scenery in Cyprus makes it one of the best settings for couples.

February is also one of the best months for exploring archeological sites in Cyprus. During summer, visiting Tomb of Kings or Temple of Aphrodite won’t be as enjoyable as in winter, due to extremely hot weather. This time of the year gives you plenty of options to spend amazing time with your partner.

Toronto is the perfect romantic destination this Valentine’s Day. Not only is it home to some of the best restaurants in Canada, but it also has romantic hotels that you’ll never need to leave!

Unleash your inner child and take to the many toboggan hills around the city. Make snow angels in the park. Watch the sunset over the city skyline. Then rush inside for a private Jacuzzi or luxury couple’s spa experience at the Fairmont Royal York in downtown Toronto.

For romantic dining experiences, you don’t need to leave downtown. Canoe is famous for its local dishes with Michelin-level finished. Ki has some of the best sushi you’ll ever taste. And Amano has homemade pasta fit for a Lady and the Tramp romantic moment.

The best part of Valentine’s Day in Toronto is curling up in a stunning hotel room on a plush bed, warm after a chilly day outside. It’s an underrated romantic destination that will bring you and your partner so much closer.

Island of Gozo (Malta)

romantic island of Gozo
Gozo

Recommended by Ben from Ticket 4 Two Please

When searching for the ideal valentine day getaway, it is hard to overlook the romantic island of Gozo – part of the archipelago of Malta.

The island of Gozo is only 67sq km (26sq miles), making it less than a quarter of the size of the main island of Malta. With that being said, what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in stunning beaches and intensely rich culture.

Undoubtedly, one of the best things to do in Gozo is to pay a visit to the famous Mgarr-ix-Xini. The secluded bay on the Southern Coast of the island featured prominently in the 2015 hit film ‘By the Sea’, starring Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

If it is culture and history that you are searching for, then Gozo certainly has its fair share. Take a romantic evening stroll around Victoria Cittadella. The UNESCO World Heritage Site, found in the heart of Gozo’s capital city Victoria, has been inhabited since the bronze age. It features a number of fascinating relics of the past – even an old prison that was still in use up until the 1960s.

When searching for the best place to stay in Gozo, look no further than the Ulysses Hotel in Xlendi. The hotel is partnered with the Front Bar. It serves a number of specialty cocktails. Equally impressive is the Ritual Dive Centre. Gozo is one of the best destinations in the world for diving. The Ritual Dive Centre offers a number of packages for beginners and experts alike.

Beautiful secluded beaches, fascinating historical sites, and world-renowned scuba-diving conditions, the island of Gozo really is a romantic paradise.

Parks such as these are the perfect venue to pack yourself a picnic. Head down to the harbour, find yourself a lovely patch of grass, and spread out a rug. There are many local vendors in the area that sell picnic hampers especially for these sorts of occasions. Cheese, crackers, wine, sparkling mineral water, olives, ham, antipasto, and pate are all popular items to include in your Valentine picnic hamper.

One of the most popular park locations to take in the beautiful views of Sydney Harbour is Beare Park in Elizabeth Bay. Beare Park is particularly popular with Sydney locals. Located within the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, very close to central Sydney itself – it is easily accessible to enjoy the day with your special partner right after work.

One of the best things about celebrating Valentine day in Sydney is that February 14 occurs at the end of summer in Australia. This means that the weather for a picnic is ideal. Summer afternoons in Sydney in February are warm and inviting. Couples can enjoy a romantic Valentine picnic watching the views as the sun sets over the harbour city of Sydney.

  1. Hmm, a few of them I visited alone, at one I got drunk with a colleague, a few I’ve seen with friends.
So it’s a great source of ideas, I just need to find a partner first 🙂

  2. Lots of great ideas for a romantic Valentine trip. Some of them, like Paris or Venice might be on everybodys radar – but I like that you also included some unusual destinations like Gozo or Pondicherry.

  3. Great ideas for spending Valentine’s Day. Places are romantic and offer active or outdoor relaxation and various attractions. I once spent Valentine’s Day in Venice, and the city is one of the most romantic I have been to so far.

  4. Very interesting mix. I’ve been to many of these places, yet, I wouldn’t think of them as particularly romantic. But that’s definitely a very personal view. I assume that you can find romance anywhere if you’re in the mood for it. However, it’s nice to show the entire variety – from beaches to mountains 😉
